Most of the magnificent walks in Scotland are for people with a good endurance and a pair of good knees which is a pity because this is something we don’t have …
Through a lady we once knew through the FCS by the name of Mieke (if she reads this, we ask her to please contact us) we became interested and we starting searching for the most stunning places along these walks. Although we try to do it by car. For the ones amongst you that can do these kind of walks, we gladly give you some ideas below.

SOUTHERN UPLAND WAY
If you would like to see a mixture of mountains, marshes, forests, lochs and grass-lands on a walk, then this longest walk in Scotland can be recommended. The best way to do this walk is from Portpatrick to Cocksburnpath. (from west to east) Distance : 340 km Time : 15-20 days
| WEST HIGHLAND WAY
This is the walk that takes you from Glasgow to Fort William. This walk gives you some astonishing views. It is a busy footpath and sometimes it comes very close to the main road. (in case of bad weather of course this is not such a bad thing) Distance : 150 km Time : 7-10 days – although I know somebody who did this in 5 days ! |
| SPEYSIDE WAY
An easy footpath along the most picturesque river of the country, the Spey. Via the Cairngorms you walk towards the Moray coast. On your journey you will encounter whisky distilleries, exquisite houses and castles as well as a rich variation of nature. A must ! Distance : 105 km Time : 4-6 days |
| GREAT GLEN WAY
The latest new walk in Scotland is the most dramatic one with regard to views. This walk goes from Fort William to Inverness via Loch Lochy and Loch Oich. After the passage through Fort Augustus it goes alongside Loch Ness northwards. Distance: 117 km Time: 4-7 days |
| CATERAN TRAIL
This walk starts of in Blairgowrie and goes circle wise through Glenshee. For the experienced walker. Distance: 96 km Time: 5-6 days
